Saints Theognis, Agapius and Pistus were the sons of St Bassa, and lived in the city of Macedonian Edessa. From childhood they had been raised in the Christian Faith, but their pagan father denounced his wife and chldren to the governor.
In spite of threats, they refused to offer sacrifice to idols. The eldest son, Theognis, was raked with iron claws, then he was beheaded.
One account says that the three brothers suffered at Edessa in Macedonia. Another account says they died at Larissa in Thessaly, their homeland.
