Korobeynikovskaya Kazan icon of the Mother of God, the greatest shrine of Altai, one of the few miraculous icons in Siberia, was located in the church of Our Lady of Kazan in the village of Korobeinikova (Ust-Pristanskogo district of the Altai Territory) from the beginning of the 20th century. The church was built in 1902 under the leadership of the builder-architect Borzenko, consecrated in 1903-1904. and was a remarkable monument of church architecture. In the church, decorated with frescos n many icons of the saints, amongst which was a striking beautiful icon of Our Lady of Kazan, to which has been added the Korobeynikovskogo name. The Theotokos is pictured in a purple robe and the blessed God-child is depicted on a gold background with a mosaic frame.
In 1938 the church was closed, looted and turned into a granary. Our Lady of Kazan, thrown under foot, was saved from desecration by a local resident, a blind woman named Olga Peregudova nicknamed Olyushka the dark. She was canonized as a local saint at the end of the 1990s. The Holy Mother of God appeared to the pious Olga in dream and ordered her to take the icon from the desecration of the Church. The image was heavily damaged; the only distinguishable features were the eyes of the Virgin and the Divine Child. After a while, a miracle happened - the icon refreshed, with shining new colors and miracles began to happen.
A few pious families kept the miraculous icon until June 1994 when it was time to return the image to Korobeinikova.
Korobeynikovskaya Our Lady of Kazan was in the Cathedral of the Intercession of Barnaul until June 29, 1994. Thousands of the faithful were able to venerate the miraculous image.
On July 2, 1994 crowded procession returned the miraculous icon to the rebuilt church in the village Korobeinikova. The icon has become the protectress of the Lady of Kazan Men’s Monastery which was built in the village. In remembrance of this event a celebration of the Korobeynikov-kazan Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary ws established.
Celebration is usually held on first Sunday after June 18.
