Saint Longinus was one of seven martyred brothers who lived in Georgia during the reign of Maximian (284-305).
The brothers were banished to the Caucasus. During the journey all seven brothers died from hunger or torture. St Longinus died on the ship on July 28. Battered by a storm, the ship went aground at Pitindeia (Pitsunda), where the body of the holy martyr was buried.
